Scottish Bioenergy is developing algal bioreactors that utilise distillery flue gas and effluent from the Scotch Whisky Industry to produce high value co-products. The systems also operate symbiotically with anaerobic digesters and fermenters.

We have completed a two year pilot study in the Scotch Whisky sector; the results are encouraging.  We are now teaming with Whisky producers and academic organisations to scale the systems up to a commercial level.

The developments made in this sector will be applicable to other industries,  but for the time being we are completely focussed on Single Malt Distilleries; not a bad place to be.

Converting Carbon Dioxide into an Asset

Scottish Bioenergy builds, sells and operates photo- bioreactors used in the cultivation of algae, cyanobacteria and other micro-organisms. The reactors consume carbon dioxide gas from industrial processes and produce oil and proteins. 

The system designs allow rapid, cost effective deployment to existing industrial facilities. The reactors are rugged and can be used as part of the structure of the building. Scottish Bioenergy is currently in Phase 2 of a plant modification at The Glenturret Scotch Whisky Distillery. The design will contribute to the aesthetic qualities of the site and provide the distillery with a portion of its fuel whilst reducing the carbon footprint of the facility.
 
Scottish Bioenergy uses proprietary growing and harvesting methods which result in increased production, fast return on investment and greater flexibility of scale. The systems are closed which inhibits attacks from invasive species and allows species specific operation. The nature of the design allows for operation in any climate.
